			3.2
QuicKeys is a powerful macro program that allows you to create shortcuts to automate computer tasks. It takes the daily tasks that would normally take you five ... six ... twenty or more steps and turns them into simple one step shortcuts. Automatically insert commonly used blocks of text, move or copy files and folders, launch your favorite web sites, open applications and documents plus so much more. The possibilities are endless; the result is always the same: more work in less time.

Using QuicKeys is easy. Just tell QuicKeys what shortcut you would like to create and then trigger that shortcut with a hot key, toolbar, timer, specified application event or even speech command. Whether you need to create multi-step shortcuts, store or retrieve text and images, schedule Automator Workflows, reformat text, select menus, run UNIX commands, automate e-mail correspondence or connect to file servers, you can make it happen in a snap with a QuicKeys shortcut.

Even though QuicKeys requires no programming to use it still has incredible power. With QuicKeys’ advanced Logic & Variables you can playback complex actions whose results may differ depending on user intervention, the current date or time, the status of a menu item or button, plus many more decision criteria. Whatever the task, simple or complex, QuicKeys provides the tools you need to automate your computer processes.

Once you simplify your daily computer tasks with QuicKeys, the benefits are obvious. Primarily, you'll save time. Every shortcut, whether saving you 10 seconds or 10 minutes, will give you back some of that most precious commodity. Accuracy is another bonus. QuicKeys shortcuts can be built to be bullet-proof, performing a task thousands of times, each iteration exactly like the last. With QuicKeys all the different parts of your Mac can be customized to work together, the way you want. Once you've experienced this kind of power, you won't want to use a Mac without it.

After trying out various ways to get it working I searched for everything on my computer that had Quickeys in it.

I threw away two files recently created that ended with: .plist (dont have the exact name).

And now it's working just fine.

This software in many ways is superior to Apple's Automator. Quickeys allows you to edit recorded actions in a GUI format, a godsend for anyone lost in Applescript's convoluted ways.

If you use apps that have a bad Mac integration, Quickeys is a "must have". For instance the German App "Office Bibliothek", a very powerful dictionary (Duden, Brockhaus etc) has nothing. No shortcuts, no services, no context menu. It even doesn't mark the search entry if launched. With Quickeys you can get a full workflow integration with one shortcut.

I find QuicKeys too expensive for what it is...anyone who hasn't bought it yet might want to check out iKey, which is shareware and does exactly the same thing, sometimes better than QK does.

People who complain that QK doesn't do enough and is too expensive are still living in the past. Take a look at the latest version. Read the manual. This puppy is chock full of features that *no* other macro program has. And this latest version extends QuicKeys' lead: automator support, a nicer palette launcher (called SoftKeys), a nifty new ability to trigger a macro when a specific drive mounts.

Clearly the gold standard for Mac macro applications.

However, it ought to be priced at $45 - $50, not $100

I'm so very much unsurprised that QuicKeys is now charging $99.95 for their product. They've always had a history of horrifically overcharging their customers, beginning with asking $15.95 for a v1.0-v1.5 upgrade price that was almost entirely a compilation of much needed bug fixes. There are plenty of other programs out there from companies that respect their users, such as iKey (formerly Youpi Key), Keyboard Maestro, and many others (including some freeware programs, if you're only looking to program your function keys). If you make the mistake of paying $100 for this overpriced piece of junk, expect to continue paying out the nose for every point release and bug fix. Ever since CE (now "Startly") tried to pull that junk on me, I've been quite happy with one of their competitors. Trust me, you will be too.

First time I recorded steps, it wouldn't play back. Hung up on every step.

Second time I played recorded steps, it locked up

my computer, solid and I had to reboot.

Third time, ah ha, there was no third time; because I threw the damn thing in the trash!

I have been a QuicKeys user since OS 8. It has taken a while to get up to speed using OS X but now it works great. I haven't had a problem with it since. Give it a chance and you will love it.

A long-time user of Quickeys pre-OSX, I immediately purchased the OS X version when it came out. From day one, it did not work with custom keyboard layouts. I've brought up this issue with them time and again and to this version the problem has not been fixed. So in my particular case, it's useless.

The newer version is MUCH better. I've used it for years (in fact, the toolbar, and the new

disable universal in specific apps, were my ideas) and I find it version DRAMATICALLY faster than the previous one. Sure, the OS X version isn't the OS 9 version, but that's a function of the OS, not QK. Search as you may, you'll not find anything better... and it just keeps getting better. I recommend it.

The addition of the Wait shortcut is a wonderful thing! New interface is much better (one hint, use command-R to rename shortcuts), although i'd like to see renaming of shortcuts in the main window. Clips is a bit confusing at first but a great thing as well. Lots of new power here, looking good.

I've been using QKs for years and although welcome the OSX version is not very useful. I can't get Menu selections to work at all, and having to step by step describe a sequence (as opposed to recording them) is not very good.

This is a serious hit on productivity.

I have used the original QK for years and years, and I've come to expect a certain level of functionality. In Classic, QK is still a slick and useful app in my opinion. But the OS X version, as noted above, falls far, far short of what I've come to expect. Lots of features are simply not available. The interface has been radically changed--for the worse. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't broke - so it sure didn't need fixing! Not that this could be considered a fix.

I have been using Quickeys for 8 years and it was the first OS X software I purchased. However, I find the range of options and features on the OS X version to be far short of what I was used to on Classic versions .In addition, the UI is quirky, often counter productive and very limited. I hope they get this together - QuicKeys could be one of the slickest apps around.

Next example is the finder-preview. A lot of AVIs block the finder if clicked. It is not possible to activate or deactivate the finder-preview via shortcut. With Quickeys it is, and it is fast.
