Make
concepts crystal clear by including QuickTime
multimedia. Sometimes text is not enough. Add sounds,
pictures, or video clips by simply dragging them into a
card. Make studying fun and reinforce concepts by adding
humorous or stimulating media content. QuickTime works with
the most popular file formats out there, and it's this
compatibility that enables you to use rich media —
including digital video, Photoshop, GIF, PNG, BMP and JPG
files — in your flashcards.
Don't
just imagine what a word sounds like, hear it. Nothing
is better for learning pronunciation than to hear the words.
Record your own voice
with the built-in sound recording feature.
Studycard Studio can also speak your questions or
answers in English or Spanish automatically. Another option
for other languages is to use phonetic spelling, or
MacinTalk's phoneme commands, to have it speak anything
imaginable.
Save time by not re-studying learned cards. Once a
question is learned, you won't need to waste any time
reviewing it — if you don't want to. Study efficiency
is what Studycard Studio is all about. If you have
hundreds of facts to learn, just keeping track of what
you've learned can be a chore. With Studycard Studio,
you don't have to.
Make studying a pleasure. With smooth anti-aliased
type, and quality sound and transition effects, if you have
a lot to study, you will appreciate the quality presentation
of Studycard Studio.
Import and Export. Create or exchange cards with
other applications. Import and export text as CSV (comma
separated values) and tab separated files of styled text, or
RTF (Rich Text Format). Create your cards using
any text editor or spreadsheet application.
Exchange cards with other flashcard applications that
support these formats. By selecting a card to use as a
template, you can import all your cards preformatted without
any additional editing.
Import Japanese and Chinese dictionaries. You can
also import from EDICT
and CEDICT
Japanese and Chinese dictionaries and use them to enhance
your vocabulary. A variety of these free dictionary files
exist on the web for downloading.
Offer explanations. An informative explanation or a
reminder can follow each question, for wrong answers or
correct answers.
Know
your score. View your stats while you study or any time
in the Progress Report. You can also print the progress
report.
Sometimes fill-in-the-blank is not enough. Create
quizzes for a variety of material with fill-in-the-blank
(long answer), multiple choice, multiple answer and
true/false questions. Use Studycard Studio for math,
chemistry, vocabulary, foreign language, ESL, geography,
science, history, medicine, music, biology, law, aviation,
pharmacology - any memory intensive course.
With the Slide Show option, just sit back and watch the
show. The Slide Show option allows timed or click
advancement of each card. With timed advance, you can just
sit back and watch each card. It's a great way to be
introduced to new material. Later you can move on to the
Flip or Quiz methods to accurately test your memory.
Learn the information, not the order it's in. Let
Studycard Studio do the shuffling for you. Plus,
multiple choice answers are mixed up too. It's done
automatically. If you want things in a set order, you can
have that too.
Memorize faster by learning small sets at a time.
Group cards by category, difficulty, or an arbitrary number
of cards. Then, you can study one group at a time.
Concentrate on learning, not the clock. Choose how long or how many cards you want to study and let Studycard
Studio stop you.
Avoid needless typing and clicking. The Flip study
method can be timed so that you only need to act when you
don't know the answer. If you know the answers, there are no
buttons to click, or keys to press — just sit back and
verify to yourself that you know the material. In addition,
multiple choice, multiple answer and true/false questions
require no typing. These are presented with buttons,
so there's no hunting for keys.

Reinforce long-term memory by re-studying before you
forget. Studycard Studio includes a powerful
feature called "Interval Study" — a
term coined by Konrad Lawson, maker of the freeware product,
Flashcard Wizard. It's a daily spaced repetition learning technique based on the proven Leitner cardfile
system devised by the German psychologist Sebastian Leitner.
The basic idea was first proposed by another German
psychologist, Hermann Ebbinghaus, and later verified by
H. P. Bahrick. So, it has real science behind
it.
Studycard Studio tracks your intervals so you don't
have to. With Interval Study, Studycard Studio
keeps track of which cards should be studied, and which
should be skipped until another day. This way, facts are
reinforced at the most efficient time, just before you are
likely to forget. It's a powerful innovation in study
efficiency. But, just imagine having to keep track of which
cards are learned, when you learned them, how many times
you've learned them, and when you plan to study each one
again. Imagine you have hundreds or thousands of cards. That
is a huge task, and Studycard Studio does it all for
you, automatically.
Prioritize. A new Prioritize option allows you to review cards that you have studied before (whose Intervals are
up), before moving on to new cards. This way, cards are presented for review at the soonest possible time, allowing you to study them again before having to cover all the other
cards first. It's especially useful if you have hundreds or thousands of cards.
Studycard Studio uses a uniquely simple method for
creating questions and answers. To specify an answer,
put brackets around it. It's fast and easy. For example,
this is a fill-in-the-blank question:
A cow says
[moo]
In this case, "moo" is the answer. That's it —
that's all you need. This is superior to how most study
applications work. Optionally, you can use something other
than brackets.
Never forget where you left off. Each time you study,
your progress is saved. The next time you study, it will
continue from where you left off.
Learning by difficulty level makes it easy. Many subjects build in difficulty. If you don't learn the easy stuff, you won't understand the hard stuff. Studycard Studio lets you progress
this way.
Organize.
An intuitive navigator list lets you keep all your cards —
however many — right at your fingertips. This
thumbnail view of all your cards helps you decide their
proper order. If you need to combine or rearrange cards
between files, it's easy to drag cards from one list to
another. Thumbnails are resizable too. There is also an
option to sort and group your cards by answer, question, or
other content.
Have lots of cards? No problem. Studycard Studio
can smoothly handle 100,000 or more cards in a document.
This enables you to import and study entire dictionaries or
other large files.
Creative freedom. Studycard Studio offers great
freedom in typesetting your questions. Form sentences with a
fill-in-the-blank directly within the sentence itself.
Arrange multiple choice answers in rows, columns, or
around a picture.
Print flash cards for the road. You can print
flash cards on individual cards or multiple cards per sheet
with the question on the front and the answer on the back.
You can even print on pre-perforated card sheets available
at most office supply stores. What's more, by printing to a
PDF file, you can view and study your
cards in a variety of applications, including Acrobat Reader
or Keynote, and on different platforms.
Save the trees. Educators can save a forest of paper
by distributing flash cards in computer form. Printing
hundreds of paper flash cards for every student in a
classroom would obviously amount to a lot of paper. Instead,
make one set of flash cards and distribute them to all your
students.
